BOWLING and Covid-19

Following the governments recent announcement on Covid-19, we are happy to confirm that Bowls England has advised that clubs can continue to offer organised bowling activity in a Covid-safe manner.

The government ruling allows people to take part in organised outdoor sports when restrictions on social gatherings are introduced from next Monday.

As a club we have tried hard to achieve a safe and enjoyable environment for our members to carry on playing the sport.

Despite the seriously restricted bowling programme and reduced opening hours of the bar, it still managed to achieve some £1,800 in takings during the month of August alone.

The debit/credit card facility is proving popular and is already accounting for over 40% of recorded income.

Members will be aware that the club has made a grant application to Sport England to help with the cost of a planned extension to the clubhouse that will include provision for new and expanded toilet accommodation.

We still await the outcome, but one feature of our grant application was for an up-graded flood-lighting system that would more effectively support evening bowling matches within an extended season. But we need much improved levels of illumination for members to really enjoy the experience.

Rob Lunn and Mick Palmby visited Cobham Bowling  Club on Friday evening to view their new artificial playing surface and experience their newly installed floodlighting system (see photo below). Very impressive. One step at a time but we are inviting the same installers used by Cobham to our club, in order to carry out a full floodlighting survey.
